Course Description

This three-day course equips participants with mechanical bench work and machine repair skills. On the first day, the course focuses on fundamental safety when using tools such as hammers, adjustable wrenches, screwdrivers, grinders, fasteners, and power tools. Emphasis is placed on ensuring safe and confident tool operation in various repair scenarios.

The following two days of the course will teach learners to understand the importance of the alignment of pulleys and sprockets. It will also cover troubleshooting basic vibration issues, basic preventative processes for belts and chains, and other mechanical drive components and systems. 

Course Outline

  1. Follow and apply safe job procedures in an industrial setting
  2. Maintain a clean and organized work area by applying proper housekeeping practices for tools, machines, and equipment
  3. Select and properly use common mechanical fasteners in assembly tasks
  4. Use standard hand tools effectively for mechanical work
  5. Measure components accurately using precision measuring devices
  6. Distinguish between types of bearings and install plain, ball, and roller, linear, and tapered bearings
  7. Install and adjust V-belt, chain, and gear drive systems according to manufacturer specifications
  8. Perform alignment procedures for both indirect and direct drive systems using mechanical and precision methods
